Interdependency is a multidimensional and multidirectional function of the metropolitan cities and towns. This paper presents a study where the interdependency parameters are considered. The aim of the study is ‘’to study the interrelation between a metropolitan city and Class-II town and how, it can support for the development of Class II town.’’ Bhopal is one of the million plus cities of India, the population of Bhopal city is 18 lakh (2011 census) and Bhopal is an eco-sensitive area such as three major lakes and large green areas, and source of major economic activities for surrounding villages and towns. It has been noticed that due to high urbanization rate in Bhopal, the population pressure is increasing on this city as it is found by the density of population. There is need to develop surrounding towns as a satellite town to cater the urban population by improving job opportunities and other facilities. Sehore is the nearest class II town of Bhopal. It is dependent on the Bhopal for administrative, employment, education, health facility, marketing, business, recreational work and other activities. On the other hand Bhopal is dependent on Sehore for recreational, marketing, business, job and other activities. Gravity model theory is applied to find the interrelation between both the places by distance and population. To justify the interdependency within both the places primary and secondary surveys have been carried out. As a result of interdependency it is found that there are about 5000 passenger/commuting population travels between both the places by bus, taxi, train and private vehicles for above activities. A significance number of passengers/commuting population were interviewed to collect the numerical data of above parameters. The supply of grains (anaj) and vegetables to Bhopal is from Sehore. The land prices of Sehore are increasing due to proximity of Bhopal as compared to other places around Bhopal. This study tries to prove the hypothesis that ’’Class II Towns are more dependent on metropolitan cities’’. The purpose of the study is to propose industrial, recreational, educational and other activities for the improvement of job and educational opportunities by assessing the dependency parameter and needs of Sehore for development as a satellite town. In addition to it a spatial plan will also be proposed for the same. The study will able to justify the interdependency between both the places and development of class II town.en_US
