Abstract: | Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha is a major node of the tourist circuits in the state, which has also emerged as a major IT and Corporate Hub with the presence of several multinationals and national companies like AES, Infosys, Satyam, TCS, Tata Steel, Reliance, Vedanta etc. So, the city needs international standard facilities to accommodate them. Convention centers are needed in a knowledge society for holding national and international conference, seminars, business meets and other facilities for holding big or small political and social meets as well. The concept of development of Convention Center in Bhubaneswar came in Year 2013 as a state-of-the-Art with a view to cater to the local, domestic and international corporate market. The Government of Odisha having intention to develop a Convention cum Trade Zone (CTZ) on approximately 24.30 Acres site at Janta Maidan a centrally located land parcel in Bhubaneswar. The Convention center is envisaged to hold Public gatherings / congregations, Meetings, Conventions and Exhibitions (MCE), Industrial promotions, Art & Crafts, Trade Fairs, Conferences etc. Equipped with multi-purpose supporting facilities, the Bhubaneswar Convention and Trade Centre will become a valuable attraction point for major events, conventions, and trade fairs, national and international conferences. Thus, the “Convention and Trade Centre” will be recognized as a landmark in Bhubaneswar. While starting with the concept and the step which was carried out was to analyse the whole site area with respect to the site context, again start the design. The convention Centre is designed in a according to the Bhubaneswar cultural and traditional building style (contemporary architectural) style. The design intention is to have an iconic building which can be a venue for multipurpose functions and events hosting in one building. The concept design emphasise on multiple event hosting centre in one building Can be used for many types of events such as marriages, corporate meeting national and international event organisation purpose, and International exhibition purposes. The architecture of the building is suitable to the location (janta Maidan) as Bhubaneswar is a fast emerging commercial city. |
