Abstract: | Nature plays a major role in healing. The typical sterile, industrial environment of a hospital is daunting and psychologically scarring. In order to tackle both healing as well as psychosocial problems associated with it, it is necessary to identify the role of nature in healing. The intent of the thesis is treating patients with life limiting diseases in a therapeutic landscape and natural setting. It concerns with improving the quality of life and living with dignity till the end of their journey. Palliative care deals with the distress and anxiety of patients awaiting their impending death, making the context a very sensitive one. The palliative care would focus on helping the patients cope in a therapeutic landscape rather than targeting religious beliefs. The design focuses on the interaction between built and the landscape surrounding it making it an integral part of the design program. The biophilic connection between man and nature is established in order to create a successful healing landscape for the terminally ill. Salutogenic concept is taken into consideration to make spaces comprehensible, meaningful and manageable for the patients. |
